Can I open a SIPP if I already have other types of pensions?
Yes, you can open and pay into a SIPP if you already hold another type of pension. That includes the state pension, or a workplace pension.
Just remember that your pension annual allowance ¬– normally £40,000 – applies across all the pensions you hold. If you exceed this annual allowance you’ll be subject to a tax charge.
