UK gross domestic product fell 1.5% in first quarter

UK gross domestic product fell by 1.5% in the first quarter, according to a 'preliminary' reading from the Office for National Statistics.

The reading was slightly better than expectations of a 1.6% fall.

GDP in March rose 2.1%, ahead of expectations for a 1.5% increase.
