US durable good orders rise in December, though core orders fall

US durable goods orders rose 2.4% in December to $245.5bn, according to the Census Bureau.

The market had been expecting a more modest rise of 1.2%.

Core durable goods orders, however, which exclude transportation, fell 0.1%, below market expectations of a 0.4% rise.
