Union Jack Oil said its partner in the West Newton discovery in Yorkshire, Rathlin Energy, had mobilsed a unit to commence testing work.

Union Jack holds a 16.7% interest in the PEDL 183 licence, containing the West Newton A-1 discovery well and the recently successful West Newton A-2 conventional appraisal well.

Rathlin had issued a notice to local residents informing them that a mobilised wireline unit and associated equipment had arrived at the West Newton A-2 wellsite on Tuesday.

The unit would conduct some logging within the cased wellbore prior to the main phase of the testing operation.

For safety reasons, Rathlin had enforced a temporary traffic regulation order to close some sections of road and footpath.

The testing operation was planned to take about four-to-eight weeks.
