Advanced engineering materials group Versarien posted a deeper annual loss after revenue was little changed and expenses rose.

Pre-tax losses for the year through March amounted to £2.8m, compared to losses of £1.6m on-year.

The result included a charge for share-based payments to executives of £0.7m.

Revenue edged up to £9.14m, compared to £9.02m on-year.

'The year has, again, been one of great progress for Versarien particularly in our emerging technologies businesses, globally and in the UK,' chief executive Neill Ricketts said.

'The graphene businesses have delivered on our strategy of expansion into global markets and progress is being seen in our existing collaborations, as well as new collaborations being entered into.'
