Solid State PLC - Worcestershire-based computing products manufacturer - Wins a contract with an existing unnamed customer to design a rechargeable battery. The initial commitment reflects a mobilisation fee of £500,000 to Steatite Ltd for the design and manufacture of prototypes and pre-production packs of a bespoke power system for the client. Solid State is Steatite's parent company.

Matthew Richards, managing director of the systems division said: ‘Cable free power is increasingly in demand, with many of the applications in non-standard formats. Solid State uses its industry know-how and most suitable chemistry with extensive in-house skills and resources to design-in the optimum solution in each case.’

Current stock price: 1,064.00 pence, up 3.3% on Tuesday
