Terms and conditions for our Amazon Skill

These terms tell you the rules which we, AJ Bell Management Limited (“us” or “we”), apply to the use of the AJ Bell Youinvest skill (“Skill”) on the Alexa service (“Alexa”) made available by Amazon Services LLC and/or its affiliates ("Amazon") on any Alexa-enabled device. These terms apply in addition to, and do not replace, any other terms that may apply to your AJ Bell Youinvest account(s) (“Account(s)”) or the use of the Skill.

You can only use the Skill if you agree to accept these terms. If you do not accept these terms, you must not use the Skill. 

Privacy and Security

The Skill allows you to use your Alexa-enabled device (e.g. Amazon Echo) (“your Device”) to communicate with us, by voice, regarding your Account(s). To use the Skill, you will have to speak commands and questions aloud to Alexa via your Device, and you will receive responses aloud via your Device. Any communication to us through Alexa via your Device will be treated by us as a communication which you have authorised, and any communication from us through Alexa in response to a request received from your Device will be treated by us as a communication to you. In other words, you are responsible for all of the interactions with us via your Device using the Skill. For example, you accept the risk of someone other than you interacting with us via your Device using the Skill, or that someone could overhear your interaction with us via your Device using the Skill and learn information about your Account(s). It is also possible that Alexa (and the equipment Alexa is installed on) and/or Amazon will record your interactions via your Device using the Skill or with Alexa. We recommend that you consult your agreements with Amazon to learn more about how Amazon and your Device treat those interactions. 

Third-Party Security Settings

Once you set up your Device with the Skill, you are authorising us to provide information to your Device based on your Device’s security settings. For example, the settings on your Device may allow your Device to retrieve information about your Account(s) based only on verbal requests from anyone who uses your Device, or to save information about your Account(s) for easier access. By enabling the Skill on your Device, you accept full responsibility for how the Skill is used on your Device (including any communication to or from us via your Device). 


We did not design or manufacture Alexa or your Device. Your Device will also run other software (e.g., Alexa and other third-party apps) that we did not write or design and do not have any control over. It is possible that Alexa will not hear you correctly, will incorrectly translate what you say, or even say something to you that is different from what we asked it to say. By accepting these terms, you are accepting that we are not responsible for any inaccuracies in your interactions with us through Alexa via your Device using the Skill. If you have any concerns or doubts about the accuracy of your interactions with us via the Skill, you can still get your Account(s) details in all of the same ways you were used to before. We recommend that you independently verify the accuracy of any such interactions before making any investment decisions that are to any extent based on that information.

Pilot & Bugs

We are making the Skill available as part of a limited, early pilot program. It is possible that there will be bugs which impact on the service and the accuracy of any information you receive through Alexa via your Device using the Skill. In addition to the possibility of Alexa mishearing you or misquoting us, there is also a possibility that something might not work correctly, or might not work at all. By getting this special preview and using the Skill, you are accepting that risk. You do not need the Skill to access to your Account(s). All of the information available from us via the Skill is also available via our website and mobile apps. You should not rely on the information made available through Alexa via your Device using the Skill as your sole means of accessing your Account(s) information.

Responsibility for loss or damage you suffer

We make the Skill available for use free of charge at your sole risk and do not in any way guarantee, either expressly or by implication, that it will it is compatible with your Device or will work in the way that you anticipate or for any particular purpose or that it will always be available. You do not need to communicate with us through Amazon via your Device using the Skill in order to operate your Account(s).

We do not exclude or limit in any way our liability to you where it would be unlawful to do so. This includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence or the negligence of our employees, agents or subcontractors and for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation.

Release of Your Information to Amazon

Your interactions with us via the Skill are subject to our Privacy Policy, a copy of which is available on the website. By installing the Skill, you are authorising us to perform the actions and/or share with Amazon the information communicated to us, or requested from us. We will send that information through Amazon, which will then go through the internet encrypted with SSL. For example, if you request via your Device that Alexa tell you the total value of your Account(s), you authorise us to release that information to Amazon.

Contacting You

The purpose of the pilot is to give our customers early access to test and provide feedback. We may seek your constructive feedback on the Skill, including problems you encounter, aspects that work well, and suggestions for improving it. You agree that we may email you from time to time to ask you about your experience with the Skill.

Changes or Amendments

We may change, suspend, or discontinue the Skill, or any part of it, at any time without notice. We may change any of these terms at our sole discretion by posting the revised terms on our website at https://www.youinvest.co.uk/our-services/alexa-terms. Your continued use of the Skill after the effective date of the revised terms will constitute your acceptance of the changes.

Technical Support

During your participation in the pilot, we may or may not provide technical and other support for the Skill. You agree to abide by any support rules and policies we may apply. If such support is provided, it will be provided in addition to any normal support for your Account(s) and will be available exclusively through the pilot while you are a participant. 

Law and jurisdiction

These terms are governed by English law. The courts of England and Wales will have exclusive jurisdiction, unless you are a resident of Northern Ireland, in which case you may also bring proceedings in Northern Ireland, or if you are resident of Scotland, in which case you may also bring proceedings in Scotland.
