Rio Tinto noted that a non-government organisation had filed a lawsuit in Mongolia claiming that due process was not followed by the government in approving the Oyu Tolgoi copper mine.

The lawsuit was initiated by the Darkhan Mongol Nogoon Negdel non-governmental organization.

Rio Tinto said early reports had suggested the administrative court of first instance had upheld claims by the NGO that due process was not followed by the government.

The court's formal written ruling was expected to be released in the coming weeks.

'Rio Tinto strongly refutes any suggestion that the underground mine development and financing plan or any of the foundational Oyu Tolgoi agreements are illegal,' the company said.
