How do I set up two-factor authentication?
It’s easy to set up two-factor authentication on your AJ Bell Youinvest account. You can do it with the latest AJ Bell Youinvest app for iOS or Android, or by using one of our recommended two-factor apps:
To get started, make sure you have an AJ Bell Youinvest app, or one of the above recommended two-factor apps, downloaded on your phone. Then log in to your account on our website, and from the ‘My account’ menu, click ‘Update my details’, then ‘Two-factor authentication’ from the left-hand menu. On the next page, click ‘register your phone now’ to be shown a QR code.
To set up two-factor authentication using an AJ Bell Youinvest app, tap ‘Two-factor Authentication’ in the app’s ‘More’ menu. You’ll then be prompted you to scan the QR code on the website. Or you can scan the QR code using the recommended two-factor app for your device.
Once you’ve scanned the QR code, you’ll see a 6-digit code. Just enter this code into the white box on our website next to the QR code and press ‘Complete’. Two-factor authentication will be set up on your account.
From then on, you’ll be prompted to enter a six-digit number every time you log in on our website. You need to generate this number by clicking ‘Generate login code’ on the ‘More’ menu of your app. If you’re using one of our recommended two-factor 3rd party apps instead, you’ll need to open the app and generate a code from there.
You’ll also be given a set of back-up codes, which allow you to log in if you don’t have access to your phone for any reason. You should download these and keep them in a safe place.
You can remove two-factor authentication at any time.
How to retrieve your back-up codes
We recommend generating backup codes to ensure that you can still log-in if your phone is not available for whatever reason.
To access these back-up codes, you need to go online to the AJ Bell Youinvest website, and log-in to your account. Go to ‘My account’ and then ‘Update my details’. From the left-hand menu, select ‘Two-factor authentication’ and you will find a set of back-up codes. Please keep these backup codes in a safe place and ensure that you do not identify these codes with your account.
If you cannot log in due to a lost/faulty phone and do not have backup codes, you will need to contact us for a code; or request to have Two-factor authentication removed. You can re-enable it at any time thereafter.
How to remove two-factor authentication from your account
Simply log-in to your account and go to ‘My account’, and then to ‘Update my details’. From the left-hand menu, select ‘Two-factor authentication’. At the bottom of this page you will see a button ‘Remove two-factor authentication’.
You will then also need to unregister your device on the app too. To do this, simply go to the app and ‘Generate log-in code’ and you will see a button to ‘Unregister device’.
You must make sure that your device is removed before trying to log-in without your code.
