FTSE nears open as investors eye CPI data

London equities are approaching the open after a softer Wall St overnight, with UK investors looking to a raft of UK inflation data out mid-morning.

At about 9.30am, UK consumer-price index, retail-price index and house-price index are issued. These data are followed by US CPI this afternoon.


On Wall St overnight, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.29% to 18,086.4, the S&P 500 eased 0.3% to 2126.5 and the Nasdaq Composite lost 0.27% to 5199.82.

In Asia this morning, the Nikkei 225 was up 0.12% to 16,919.75, while the Hang Seng firmed 0.88% to 23,240.35.

At 6.01am, WTI crude was up 0.27% to $50.21/bbl and Brent was up 0.5% to $51.78/bbl. Gold was up 0.22% to $1259.4/oz.


Final results are due from ASOS, Bellway, Connect Group and dotDigital Group. Trading statements are expected from BHP Billiton, Burberry, Evraz and Hays. Shareholder meetings are being held by Frontier Developments and Scancell Holdings.
