US initial jobless claims flat in week to Oct. 8

US initial unemployment claims remained unchanged at 246,000, seasonally adjusted, for the week to Oct. 8, Labor Department data showed.

This was the lowest reading since November 1973.

Prior-week claims were revised to show 3,000 fewer applications received than first reported.

The week to Oct. 8 is the eighty-fourth consecutive one that jobless claims were less than 300,000.
