Commercial flooring and construction services group Mountfield reported a modest rise in first-half profit as its sales ticked higher.

Pre-tax profit for the six months through June increased to £0.72m, compared to a profit of £0.70m on-year.

Revenue rose to £9.14m, up from £8.87m, and the company said it expected to post an improved overall performance for the full year.

'We are pleased to report that the improvement in the group's performance and profitability that we have seen over the last few years has continued into the first half of 2019,' chief executive Andy Collins said.

'Net profits for the period are similar to the figure achieved in the corresponding period of the previous year.'

'The board expects the results for the full year to show improvement on those for 2018.'
