Software and services provider to the education market Tribal said there had been a cyber security breach at its operations in Australia.
The company said it had been made aware of the unauthorised disclosure and likely access of personal information of around 9,300 individuals.
The information was held by Tribal Campus, an Australian subsidiary of the company, in its capacity as a provider of a student information system to educational group MEGT.
'Upon discovery of the unauthorised disclosure, immediate steps were taken by Tribal to secure the data and external forensic cyber security experts were appointed to investigate the circumstances and scope of the incident,' Tribal said.
'While those investigations are ongoing, the individuals that may have been affected have been contacted and advised on the steps they should take.'
'The group continues to work closely with the regulator in Australia.'
Tribal said the suspected hack was an isolated incident relating to the migration of data for a single customer in Australia involving a non-production system.
'No other customers, products or regions have been affected,' it added.
'Whilst there can be no certainty as to the financial impact, based on current estimates, costs to Tribal are not expected to be material.'
