Professional services group Norman Broadbent said it had edged into the black in the first half of 2019.

'I am pleased to report that the first six months of the year have seen continued positive top line growth and have resulted in the company recording a small profit before tax,' chief executive Mike Brennan said in speech notes for the company's AGM.

'The return to profitability in the first half is an extremely important milestone for the group,' he added.

'These results validate our strategy of building a more diversified business supplying high value services to our clients.'
