British restaurant and pub chain The Restaurant Group announced on Thursday that chief executive Andy McCue would step down from his position due to "extenuating personal circumstances".

The company said a search for his replacement would start immediately and anticipated that Andy would remain in position during the recruitment process.

"While I recognise that this decision is untimely, it is the right one for me and my family. We have a strong team in the business and a clear plan which we are focused on delivering," said Andy McCue.

At the same time, the company said that current trading remained "in line with expectations".
