Serabi Gold employee killed in accident at Palito mine in Brazil

Serabi Gold said a company employee had died on Tuesday from a mining-related accident at its Palito gold mine in Brazil.

The employee died after sustaining a crush-related injury, the company said.

Serabi said it was investigating the cause of the accident and had notified the relevant authorities, including the police.

Production in the area of the incident had been suspended until an outcome of the enquiries had been reached.

'We are deeply saddened to announce a fatal accident at our Palito mining operation on February 11th during the day shift,' chief executive Mike Hodgson said.

'I join with all of my colleagues and fellow directors in expressing our sincere condolences to the family and friends of the deceased.'
