Wall Street opens higher despite oil price retreat

US markets started the week in positive territory, despite oil prices coming under further pressure, with traders opting to follow positive moves in Asia rather than the negative sentiment seen in Europe after G20 finance leaders concluded talks in Germany.

The Dow was recently up by 0.17% at 20,949.18, the broader-based S&P 500 was flat at 2,378.66 and the tech-focussed Nasdaq Composite rose by 0.21% to 5,913.54.

RISERS AND FALLERS

The Dow leaderboard was headed by Nike, Caterpillar and Walt Disney, with all three stocks up by more than 1%. Early fallers included Visa and Home Depot, both off by 0.8%.

COMMODITIES

At 2:45pm (GMT), WTI crude was 0.84% lower at $48.37/bbl, Brent was down by 0.39% at $51.56/bbl, while Gold was trading higher at around $1,232/oz.
