FTSE to open quietly amid sluggish news flow

London equities are poised to open quietly on what is seen as a sluggish news day, following market gains in Asia this morning and a positive Wall St overnight on Friday.

Traders will be looking to the euro-zone retail purchasing-managers' index mid-morning, followed soon after by Sentix investor confidence data for the single-currency bloc.

US & ASIA

On Wall St overnight on Friday, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.94% to 20,071.46, the S&P 500 firmed 0.73% to 2297.42 and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.54% to 5666.77.

In Asia this morning, the Nikkei 225 had gained 0.25% to 18,965.07, while the Hang Seng firmed 0.56% to 23,258.21.

At 6.06am, WTI crude was up 0.35% to $54.02/bbl and Brent was up 0.3% to $56.98/bbl. Gold was up 0.38% to $1225.5/oz, with silver and copper also up.
