US jobless claims lowest since 1973

US initial unemployment claims fell to 235,000 in the week ending 12 Nobember, a decrease of 19,000 from the previous week's unrevised level of 254,000, the US Department of Labor said today.

This is the lowest level for initial claims since 24 November 1973 when it was 233,000.

The 4-week moving average was 253,500, a decrease of 6,500 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 259,750 to 260,000.
