Cornerstone FS PLC on Monday appointed James Hickman as its new chief executive officer, effective from September 12.

Shares in the cloud-based payment provider were up 16% to 10.44 pence each in London on Monday morning.

Most recently, Hickman was chief revenue officer at Dublin-based fintech business, Fire Financial Services Ltd.

Previously, Hickman was chief commercial officer at AIM-listed Equals Group PLC for nearly five years. Prior to that, he was managing director at Caxton FX Ltd, a privately held card & payments business.

In July, Cornerstone announced the sudden resignation of CEO Julian Wheatland. Wheatland oversaw the creation of the company and its initial public offering in April 2021.

Chair Elliott Mannis said: ‘James brings a wealth of industry experience and excellent strategic and leadership skills to Cornerstone, and I am delighted that he will be our new CEO. He has impressed the board with his clarity of vision, breadth of knowledge and his strong client-centric mindset.
