Solid State PLC - Worcestershire-based computing products manufacturer - Wins a contract with a US-based client. The contract worth £2.4 million sees Solid State's components division supplying hardware to be used in bee hive monitoring.

Solid State sensors will be placed in the middle of a hive, which will collect data to send to the cloud, Solid explains. This monitors ‘hive behaviour which may indicate ill health or stress, or a change in hive conditions which threatens the bees' wellbeing,’ it adds. The monitoring aims to reduce mortality rate as beekeepers are alerted when changes occur.

The client's goal is to increase its number of beehives to 300,000 from 48,000 over the next eight months, Solid State says.
