Part of my role as Head of Active Portfolios here at AJ Bell is to ensure that funds on the Favourite fund list are kept under constant review, and to make any changes we deem necessary. Below are the recent changes we’ve made.

Funds removed

On Friday, Nick Clay, manager of the BNY Global Income fund, announced he was leaving BNY, along with the deputy manager and two analysts in the team. With such a large number of the management team departing, we anticipate a lot of uncertainty while the new manager beds in. Clay, who has worked on the fund for a long time and been lead manager for the past five years, was a very experienced manager. We believe he was integral to the fund, and because of his departure, have decided to remove the fund from our Favourite funds list and Ready-made portfolios.

Funds added

We have added the Trojan Global Income fund to the Favourite funds list and to our Ready-made Balanced and Adventurous portfolios. This fund is managed by the very experienced James Harries. He looks to invest in high-quality companies with strong competitive advantages – which he believes can lead to the ability to compound returns over the long term.

In the Ready-made Income portfolio, we’ve added the Evenlode Global Income fund, which we recently added to the Favourite fund list. This fund, which is managed by Ben Peters, operates in a similar manner to Trojan Global Income. But as the three Ready-made growth portfolios already include the Evenlode Income fund, we felt it was important to ensure a diversity of asset managers across the portfolio.

The tables below show the asset allocation for each of the Ready-made portfolios, and the funds which have been removed and added are highlighted.
